Pro: The illustrations are great and I enjoyed flipping through the book. The book has a fairly light tone that also makes it an easy read. The stories are back by the actual Dao De Jing and as an absolute introduction it is fine.

Con: The huge downside is that the author has taken some of the chapters in the Dao De Jing and taken them further than the text supports.

So, for me, the illustrations and tone would make it a 4 or 5 star, but the text is just off enough that I think it would mislead people.

Recommend for introduction, but immediately move away if you develop an interest in the Dao De Jing and want to study what it actually says.

Said another way, if the reader wants a basic introduction to Lao Tzu and doesn't have the patience for a more serious book, this is a fine start. If you are interested in the Dao De Jing another translation will serve you much better.

My favorite book. The simple yet profound wisdoms of the Tao te Ching captured in the humble lessons of an illustrated Lao-Tzu.

Masterful use of comic style story telling, as artful as intelligent.
Very impressive, considering a major book on philosophy is adapted to a cartoon. Definitely worth buying.
